Improvement of the safety of infrastructures and air navigation services for the island airports of the Trans-European Network |
Information of the Action: |
The action concerns the supply and installation of:
- Seven (7) Automated Airport Terminal Area Information Service Systems, through voice broadcast (Voice-ATIS) and via Data Link (Data Link-ATIS or D-ATIS), for the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu, Kos and Chania,
- One (1) Automated Broadcasting System of Meteorological Information for Aircraft in Flight, through voice broadcast (Voice-VOLMET) and via Data Link (Data Link-VOLMET or D-VOLMET), to cover the needs of the Athens and Macedonia Area Control Centers.
The main objective of this action is to ensure the correct provision of the necessary flight information, either in Airport Terminal Areas, or in the Flight Area of the national airspace, in the most functional way for the provision of Air Traffic Control Services. Also, the Voice/Data Link-ATIS and Voice/Data Link-VOLMET systems to be supplied comply with international regulations, standards and practices and contribute to the safety of aviation, as well as to the reduction of the ground-air voice communication load.
Airport aeronautical information is provided automatically (Voice) or on request (Data Link) through the ATIS System, while flight area meteorological data is provided automatically (Voice) or on request (Data Link) through the VOLMET System.
With the supply of the systems in question, the upgrade of the existing equipment and the satisfaction of the recommendations of the International Organizations will be achieved, for better quality, more efficient and more effective management of Air Traffic.
